The I-Pub

I went out with some friends last night to one of two Irish pubs in town.  The one we went to last night is simply called the Irish Pub.  Creative, I know.  Everyone calls it I-Pub.  It is a pretty cool bar.  It was also the first time I've spent any time at all in Partenkirchen.

Let me explain.  Garmisch-Partenkirchen is one town.  It used to be two separate towns, however, and there is still a division of sorts.  A rail line runs strait though the middle of the town, which divides them.  The idea of the other side of the tracks applies world wide I suppose.

Anyway, after a short predrink at the Abrams, we took a cab to the I-Pub.  I had a nice if not short conversation with our cabby Sebastian.  He is a life long Garmischer.  He is visiting America soon, but I couldn't convince him to go to Texas.  He is doing Vegas though, so good for him.  I haven't even been to Vegas.

The bar was packed early.  We arrived around 2100 and there was hardly standing room.  It isn't a huge place, but it was packed to the seems.  I had a few beers though the night.  I met some of the local favorites.  They had a one man band for local music for a few hours.  He's an Irishman and pretty good.  He was doing covers of mostly American songs.  One of my bosses is married to an Australian bar tender there, so I met some of the bar staff as well.  I feel like I'm making friends fast, but its not hard here.  Everyone is great.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Fussbal on the TV.  We watched West Ham and New Castle go at it for a while, and then they switched over to rugby, which was an extra treat.  I got to watch the All Blacks annihilate England.  I had a large smile on.  :-D

After the bar, we walked down to a 'Mexican' restaurant called Saulsalitos near the train station.  It was good food, but I think they are using a pretty broad definition of Mexican food.  I try not to judge to harshly though.  It is several thousands of miles to the heart of Mexican culinary delight: Texas.

It was a short walk back to the Abrams.  A good night.  I was glad to have seen a new part of town and met so many new people.  As always, I am enjoying it here.
