Strauss was a composer. A pretty famous composer. I think maybe the most well known and my personal favorite piece is the one that is recently made famous by the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look it up. I recommend that movie highly as well as appreciate the music.
My goal was to get as high as possible up the Kramer today. This is the same mountain I hiked a few days ago. This Texas boy is not yet quite used to the altitude change. The halfway house was a good stopping point. They have beer. And what was described to me several times as the best apple strudel in all of Germany. I haven't eaten all the apple strudel in Germany, but I believe the claims. It was sooo amazing. The halfway house has a real name and it is the St. Martin Hütte. Here are some photos I took, but their website has some that are less amateur hour:
These are photos of the two of the three most important buildings in Garmisch as for as my life is concerned. The left is The Abrams complex, which is the living quarters where I reside, and the right is the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort, where I work. I work most of the time in the warehouse at the Artillery Kaserne, but you can't really see it all that well from the halfway house. It is close to Edelweiss though.
As it turns out, I may not get to tour the Neuschwantein Castle just yet. This happens. When I get to go, it is as a filler of sorts. I pay very little to go on the amazing tours they have our of the Edelweiss. Oh well... I will have lots of time to get on the tours here. I feel like whatever I'm doing here, I'm not wasting my time anyway.
