I woke up this morning around 6:00am to some pretty righteous snow falling. After a run around the deserted streets, I took a shower and got ready for my first day of actual work! I bought a bike yesterday at the PX, so when I was all ready, I headed the mile and a half to work.
After checking out my uniform and changing, I met my new boss Fred Ishizuka. We did a short orientation, followed by a little bit more paperwork. Then the person I'm replacing, Sam, showed me the ins and outs of the warehouse. My time at Bass has prepared me well for this particular job. I was the assistant manager at the Bass outlet in San Marcos for a time, and this is very similar work. Retail ist retail.
I have a fairly regular schedule, which suites me. I work regularly from 8:30 - 5:00. Two days off a week. I can work with that. I have been needing a regular schedule to get sanity back into my life, and now I have it.
After work I biked back to The Abrams, the living quarters for the employees like myself. After a few minutes, I decided to head back to the base complex and hit the comissary, as the only food that I had was granola bars and water. With some food and laundry detergent, my trip was complete.
I work again tomorrow, then I have the weekend off. I can't wait to get the rest of my paperwork issues taken care of (driver's lisence, security clearance, computer authorization, etc), so that I can settle into a routine during my work week, and start planning some excursions for my time off.
"I have been needing a regular schedule to get sanity back into my life, and now I have it."--i'm jealous!
