Monday. It definitely is a Monday today. My day started very slow. It was snowing when I woke up, which is fine. I'm still not over the novelty of snow, and it delights me. I just couldn't get the engine started to save my life this morning. But, it did get better.
There is an old man that works at The Edelweiss. He is an old Army Vet and sort of a badass. When I say he is old, I mean to say that he is maybe the oldest person in town. This Karate black belt is 85 folks. He is in charge of Internal Control. I know... I don't know what that means either. He basically makes sure the whole operation is kosher. He checks the mail for anthrax and follows up with the cleaning crew. I'm not sure I could give an adequate job description for this guy if you gave me a year to work on it.
Pineapple is Hawaiian. He joined the Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was in Korea and Vietnam as the personal aid to McArthur. General McArthur. He is one cool Pineapple. He took Colin, my coworker, and me out to lunch today. We went to The Grill Rustico. We let Pineapple order for us, which was both the best and worst thing we possibly could have done. We each had a t-bone the size of my head, a baked potato, corn on the cob and a salad. Oh and some liver dumpling soup. I think I'll be digesting this meal for a year. It was good though. Definitely one of the best steaks I've ever had.
Pineapple makes a practice of taking the younger employees (as in younger than, say, an 85 year old) out to eat. He is making plans to take the entire house keeping staff to a giant dinner party for Christmas. He is a genuine and good person. Pineapple, and people like him, make the world a place that is truly friendly.
