Road Trippin' In A Circle: Round 1

Yesterday was Easter Sunday, and I was lucky enough to spend it on a road trip around my beautiful island with some great friends.  (LOTS OF PICTURES)

Mike sampling the cherry blossoms

A monument near my schools.  For a wrestler I want to say?

Another monument near my school for the soldiers and police
that died while fighting Japanese occupation.

You can see the monuments in the background

Some graves.  They are very common around here,
but the mausoleum is something I haven't seen yet.

The walkway to the memorial for Admiral 이순신 (Yi Sun-shi),
a famous Korean who died defending his country from the Japanese.

The memorial for Admiral 이순신 (Yi Sun-shi).  His last words were,
"The battle is at a crucial point, don't let anyone know of my death."

Mike and Liesell soaking up the view.

The view of the area where the famous sea battle took place.

A tree that is estimated to be about 500 years old.
It is said to have been planted by a man to shade him
while he rested between working his rice fields.
It is now charged with protecting the town.

The view from 망운산 (Mangun Mountain).

남해읍 (Namhae-eup) where I live.

One of the temples on 망운산 (Mangun Mountain).

Colm is just snappin a few pics.

After we made it back down the mountain (barely),
we came across this guy training this young cow to plow a field.

We stopped for desert after eating some expensive burgers at the Hilton.
For a convenient store, this place has a pretty nice view.

The view from the lookout over 다랭이 마을 (Daraengi Village).
It's a famous terraced village here on Namhae Island.

Some wacky Korean statues.  Koreans are wacky.

We quickly drove through the 미국마을 (American Village).
It is a row of houses built in American style (sort of).
They also have a similar German Village.

We stopped 월포 마을 (Wolpo Village) to fly our kites.
The first success we really had with them.
There are some great coastal winds here.

Some of the damage from Typhoon Sanba.

Our last stop of the day was on Clown Island,
a small island connect to the main island by a causeway.

I really had a great day.  It was a lot of fun without any major hiccups.  And we were lucky to have such a beautiful day!
